YSF Workshop 18-28 January 2009Parallel to the Arctic Frontiers Conference and in direct connection with the oral presentations, the Young Scientist Forum and the ARCTOS PhD school will organise an international workshop for PhD students that is open for all students interested in the pan-Arctic region. The title is: ”Arctic marine ecosystems in an era of rapid climate change”. This is an approved PhD level course (BIO-8502) at the University of Tromsø, and consists of the conference itself, plus an intensive 5 days seminar including scientific lectures on Arctic marine ecosystems in an era of rapid climate change. The workshop takes place in Tromsø, at the coastal steamer “Hurtigruten” and on the Lofoten Islands. All students must also register trough the “online registration” and sign up for a poster presentation at the Arctic Frontiers Conference. Contingent upon funding, ARCTOS may offer travel grants to PhD-students and post doctoral fellows. The grants will cover 1) the air fare (cheapest possible ticket - air fare limited to NOK 7000 for US / Canada, NOK 3000 Europe, NOK 5000 Russia), and 2) accommodation in Tromsø. (Russian students may - upon request - have also the conference fee covered) Application for travel support should be addressed to Elisabeth Halvorsen ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) giving costs (travel budget), research interests, title and abstract of poster. ArcticNet, ARCTOS and PanAME associated students are especially welcome to apply.
